She continued to write for five years and she met a lot of rejections along the way. Alongside this, she also worked as a freelance writer for a magazine to help boost family income.
With some of the money she saved from writing her articles, she was able to save enough to attend a romance writer’s conference where one of her manuscripts – Heartsong – was selected by an editor from Harlequin Enterprises Ltd. to be critiqued.
Unfortunately, she met another rejection from the editor and was even advised to throw her manuscript away. Determined, Debbie Macomber scraped $10 and submitted the same manuscript to Silhouette Books – Harlequin’s rival – which the company bought. This was the beginning of her good publishing career.

Whoever wrote the bio of Debbie Macomber did not proofread their writing. A few mistakes in this line (Debbie Macomber was married to her husband wins and they had food children.) I am DESPERATELY looking for the entire collection of Debbie Macomber books In LARGE print for my elderly mother who is bored and has been reading them FOREVER!! The last one she read was “Morning Comes Softly”
Will there be another book about Norah, because weddings in orchard valley are about Valerie and Stephanie? At the end, it says Norah’s in for one heck of a surprise
I love Debbie Macomber’s books. In the series Rose Harbor I have all but one, Falling for Her, but I can’t find it. I don’t do kindle, I would like a hardback issue to go with the others. Do you know if this is possible?
I just bought The Witness first published in 2012 (Jove) and the anthology I’ll Be Home for Christmas with Silver Bells published in 2017 (Mira), story from 1996 by Debbie. Can’t find either book on this site.
My wife and I read Debbie’s books and really like them. We bought one titled Navy Brides which claimed to have 2 stories, Navy Wife & Navy Blues. To our surprise, after reading Navy Wife and starting Navy Blues we found that the Navy Blues story was word identical to the Navy Wife story. This was in a book published in 2022.
Was this a mistake or our both stories the same except for the titles?
